Lent.
I love how Pastor Dan clarifies a lot; I recommend, particularly if doing a food-related fast:
Lent 2012.
(Even if you are not doing a food-related fast, it’s still a helpful/encouraging read!)Every year our pastors lovingly remind us that Lent isn’t about giving up something we already should be giving up (ie… giving up cigarettes and binge-drinking for 40 days only.. Stuff we should be giving up anyway). It’s more about the good things that we’re blessed with, but may be perhaps overindulging in. Even if we’re not eating 100 burgers every day though, maybe it’s a good idea to cut back on a few things to remind us of how we must live more by Christ’s strength than our own.
The other thing that always sticks for me is that breaking fast on Sundays is pretty important: ”Breaking your fast once a week reminds us that it’s not about us, but about our God who saves.”
